Review: At Home in Last Chance
Author: Cathleen Armstrong
Series: A Place to Call Home #3
Genre: FICT, Contemporary Romance
Short Book Description:
What happens when the life you’re running from won’t let go of your heart?
Kaitlyn Reed and Steven Braden have always had a similar philosophy of life: when the going gets tough, they get going–out of town and away from the problem. Now they are both back in Last Chance, New Mexico, and trying to start over.
Kaitlyn is working to re-establish a relationship with the seven-year-old daughter she left behind six months earlier. Steven is trying to prove to his family that he is not the irresponsible charmer they have always known him to be. As Kaitlyn and Steven find themselves drawn to one another, one big question keeps getting in the way: How will they learn to trust each other when they don’t even trust themselves?
With emotional depth and characters who leap off the page and into your heart, Cathleen Armstrong invites you to return once more to the dusty and delightful town of Last Chance.
I had a bit of a struggle getting into this book, but that may be because I haven’t read the second book in the series. I had read the first one a couple of years ago and since there were new characters added and taken out there was a bit of confusion on my part. Once I got into the story though, I had no problem completing it within a couple of days.
I fell in love with all the characters that were mentioned frequently within the pages. I would have a hard time choosing a favorite. Juanita did have my giggling at times though. I really felt for Olivia, Kaitlyn’s daughter.
This book was really well written. I would say though that for this series you wouldn’t have to read the other books for this one to make sense, though I definitely would recommend it. It does give quite a bit of a background story for characters in the previous books, but just enough for the book to make sense.
A story based around trust and second chances this is a boo, and series, that I would definitely recommend to anyone who loves contemporary Christian romance.
