Short Book Description:

In a steamy small town riddled with broken promises, one woman’s secret could change everything.

Acting Sheriff Ben Logan hasn’t heard from Leigh Somerall in a very long time, but it doesn’t mean he can get her–or their whirlwind romance of ten years ago–out of his head. When she calls out of the blue, it is with a strange request to protect her brother, Tony. But all too soon, Ben is charged with a different task–protecting Leigh from the people after her brother. With Leigh doing everything in her power to avoid Ben, it’s no easy task. And the secret she is keeping just may change their lives forever.

My Thoughts:

After finishing the first book, Shadows of the Past, only hours before starting this one, I couldn’t wait to open it and start reading. Patricia has quickly become one of my favorite suspense authors. The way she writes and thoughtfully plots out her books is perfect for me.

Like the first book, I had no idea who the villain was. It had me guessing at every turn. Though the villains’ name did come up close to the beginning you don’t find out until the end who he is. That’s one thing I really enjoy about these books, they keep you guessing and re-guessing.

Another thing I really liked about this particular book is that it shows what the consequences of ‘sleeping’ with the person who you are in relationship with can be. The results can often hurt both parties in the end.

This is another book that I would definitely recommend to anyone that loves thrillers.

Other books in this series:

  1. Shadows of the Past (January 2014)
  2. Gone Without a Trace (July 2015)
