Short Book Description:

She has a secret to keep. But will she give her heart away?

Lucy Banning may live on the exclusive Prairie Avenue among Chicago’s rich and famous, but her heart lies elsewhere. Expected to marry an up-and-coming banker from a respected family, Lucy fears she will be forced to abandon her charity work and squeeze herself into the mold of the well-dressed wife who spends most of her time and money redecorating.

When she meets Will, an unconventional young architect who is working on plans for the upcoming 1893 World’s Fair, Lucy imagines a life lived on her own terms. Can she break away from her family’s expectations? And will she ever be loved for who she truly is?

Get swept away into the lavish world of Chicago’s high society as Olivia Newport brings to life an age of glitz and grandeur, stark social contrasts, and one woman who dares to cross class lines for what she believes.

My Thoughts:

I loved how this book has the class barriers in it. Lucy Banning, who is engaged to Daniel, a longtime family friend, wants to live a life of her own. She wants a college degree, a job, and a man who will love her the way she is. Lucy is a woman who embraces the new age for women; an age where women can have jobs and get careers.

She lives two lives and one is a secret that no one but her Aunt Violet knows about. Until she breaks her engagement and her ex-fiancé becomes her stalker.

Lucy meets Will, a friend of her brother Leo. The more often they meet the more eager she is to see him and realizes that she is actually falling in love. She lets no one know, as the barrier between their classes is too great, so her parents think.

  1. There couple of fascinating points at some point in this posting but I don’t determine if these individuals center to heart. There is some validity but Let me take hold opinion until I check into it further. Wonderful write-up , thanks and then we want much more! Combined with FeedBurner in addition

  2. I’m impressed, I have to say. Actually rarely do I encounter a weblog that’s each educative and entertaining, and let me let you know, you’ve got hit the nail on the head. Your concept is excellent; the problem is something that not enough persons are talking intelligently about. I’m very completely satisfied that I stumbled throughout this in my search for one thing relating to this.
